Matteo Amaretto is a musical project formed and fronted by Matti Amato, with Aiden “Jonesy” Jones on bass, and Paulie Amato on guitar. Sonically, our music is best described as a moody and cathartic blend of Emo, Dreampop, and synthwave.
Paulie and I started making music under the name Over the Rhone in late 2017. We grew up around a lot of progressive rock and metal but had a deep affinity for the emo and shoegaze scene. Paulie was creating a lot of solo music on bandcamp and I was becoming obsessed with vaporwave and synthwave music production.
This strange and beautiful blend of interests and aesthetics allowed us to stand out in the Cottonwood Az music scene.
We performed at DIY festivals and bars downtown, slowly creating a cult following.
The pandemic prevented us from performing and in 2020, I started producing an album to be released under the pseudonym Matteo Amaretto.
We decided to end the project Over the Rhone in 2023 with one final show, which enlisted the help of Jonesy on bass for a final number.
This cemented us as a three piece, laying to rest one project and birthing Matteo Amaretto as we are known today.
It is due to the passion and support of our one of a kind fan base, and the wonderful venues in Cottonwood Arizona, that we are able to do what we do, and we will never forget where we came from.
