Matthias Zimmermann is a Berlin-based producer whose debut album was released in 2016 on Back Office Records and Sound Pellegrino.
To describe Matthias Zimmermann's music is to risk imposing limits on his music, although he goes beyond them by weaving universes as rich as his musical training, from hip hop to techno, and even jungle. If the Berlin producer sometimes allows himself targeted escapades, like his house productions under the alias Joe Cleen, or his EP Momentum Series pt. I, purposefully created for techno sets, he generally strives for mix genres to create a musical mosaic of his own.
His eponymous debut album invited us to an imaginary island where each track is a character with a very special personality. This project with multiple facets, from ambient to tribal music and jazz, plunges us into a house tinged with pop by mixing field recording and mechanical sounds.
Conceiving music as an initiatory journey, Matthias Zimmermann is not done making his audience explore new dimensions. His new EP, Kontakt, scheduled for spring 2021 can only confirm it. Through four tracks, the Berlin producer invites us in his melodious peregrinations where keyboards, samples and synthesizers come together.
