Matty Holmes

Born in Toronto in 1990, Matty Holmes’s story is one of survival and growth. After witnessing frequent fights between his parents, Matty’s rebellious spirit emerged early, leading to substance abuse by a young age—a struggle that worsened when his father left. Romantic relationships mirrored this turmoil, with betrayal becoming a pattern and his brother’s battle with cancer and addiction weighing heavily on him.

A toxic, abusive relationship led Matty to move to across the country, seeking clarity and self-discovery. As he began to heal, he returned just before COVID lockdowns but struggled to release music consistently due to mental health challenges, even facing suicidal thoughts. Writing became his path to peace, helping him forgive his father and channel his pain. Yet another setback arrived through a strained relationship, followed by a life-changing car accident in 2023 and a diagnosis with BPD, which allowed him to refocus on his mental health.

Emerging from these experiences and his journey of sobriety, Matty created the motto “Bros Before Lows,” promoting the importance of male support through life’s darkest challenges. His music fuses emotional melodies with a soft yet edgy tonality, transcending genres to adapt to a range of styles. Each song reflects resilience, inviting listeners into his journey and inspiring them to rise above.
