In the tradition of some of the great unclassifiable acts in rock and roll history, Alex Maunders unites indie, space rock, and roots in a rich spectrum of sounds. As a veteran member of Victoria, BC's Cartoon Lizard where his song-writing flairs shine through in the group's own genre-blending experiments, Maunders has honed a uniquely sensuous baroque philosophy when it comes to pop. In his solo work, his careful attention to sonics and melody burst in songs of love, loss, solitude, and connection that unfold in careful and intimate poetry. Maunders explores these stories with an ear for the colloquial and the heartbreaking and a fearless sense of innovation into the layers of a song. In his growing body of work, Maunders has choreographed a declarative atmospheric sound, a lush and sparkling folk by way of a psychedelic sensibility, Fleet Foxes fronted by Thom Yorke, Grizzly Bear with nods to Syd Barrett.
From the heart of a an organ, a drum machine, an echoing guitar, his own soft voice dripping in reverb, Maunders has built walls of sound that mark the path for a bright and ambitious talent, emerging onto the flickering stage of a road hardened balladeer with a vivid perspective and unflinching emotion.
