Max Turner Oestreicher is a true musical practitioner and a hard driving drum operator. Always refining and reworking the position of rhythm producer, and texture technician, he manages to move through sound-making in conversation with others. His quasi-solo release, “Duos,” finds him working within improvisation, ranging from strict to semistructured, taking on groove or disjuncture with equal reverence. The album emerges with an aim: to make percussion + 1 sound “complete.” To pair up for a moment with a banjo, to pair with a voice, to pair with cowbells and then to sound whole.
