Maxine School of Dance is the electronic project of StillWaves front-person Daniel Carlyle. Stepping outside the angular guitars and darker tones of the post-punk band StillWaves, this project draws from a diverse range of influences such as Mvtant, Kontravoid, Boy Harsher, The Soft Moon, Junior Boys and Nuovo Testamento. Maxine School of Dance delivers pulsating, straight-ahead rhythms aimed to get you moving. From early days using Korg Electribes, Carlyle's approach to programming has always been in hardware rather than software and DAWs. A recent shift to AKAI MPCs, while also using older vintage gear, helps him blend a sound of nostalgia and also modern sensibilities.
