Maya Johanna is a Tel Aviv based singer-songwriter, who is known for her warm silky voice, haunting melodies and captivating performance. She has been an active musician in the local Israeli scene for over a decade, where she has taken part in various projects and ensembles, and collaborated with many acclaimed artists.
In 2015 she released her debut album, <a href="spotify:album:2EFl3HVeMCsCSxO4Qq3Mhs" data-name="Bells in Our Stomachs">Bells in Our Stomachs</a>, comprised of seven of her originals. It received well deserved attention both locally and outside of Israel.
Maya is now releasing new songs in Hebrew from a new project. The EP, ”Ma SheNishar Bi” (“What remains in me”), is the joint creation of Maya and <a href="spotify:artist:1OVHNpl5PPNv0MKi9joFvV" data-name="Ben Golan">Ben Golan</a>, who composed the songs. Together with producer Ben Avgay they completed the recording of the project, which consists of five songs, and is influenced by Israeli music from the 60s & 70s and American folk music.
The songs feature a captivating combination of lush and airy acoustic arrangements with Maya’s effortless and moving delivery. The result is a clean yet rich soundscape, and a type of naivety that evokes feelings of sweet and soothing nostalgia.
