Maya Mpiti is a 23 year old artist born and bred in the mountain kingdom of Lesotho.
Born in 1997 on the 26th of February with birth names Tikoe Antonia Retselisitsoe
Mpiti. Her love for music started when she first was able to sing along to Westlife and
Beyonce songs. She then started writing her own songs in high school.
Maya grew up listening to hip-hop, and R&B. She describes being "obsessed"
with Beyonce’s music as a teenager and was inspired by the singer's raw approach to
songwriting. Maya's songs are about social issues, talking more and deeply
about love: the heartbreaks and the joy of loving and being loved.
She recorded her first single in 2017 (if I were you) when she was doing her second
year of study at the National University of Lesotho. Followed then a series of singles
released the year after titled issues and Déjà vu. In 2019 she released a single titled
"Please."
She performed alongside the likes of Nadia Nakai at the biggest event held at Maseru
called Maseru Easter festival in 2017, along side Sands at Maseru Summer party and
A-reece at the AD launch held at ha Thetsane. She was an opening act for Berita live in
Maseru in 2019. This was a big inspiration, motivation and a sign that she
too can be amongst the stars.
