Megadrumz is a duo breathing new life into Amapiano. They describe their brand as soulful Amapiano with a message.
Megadrumz is made up of Bongani Prince Sindani and Tumelo Ramahlodi who are both from Phola Park in KwaMhlanga, Mpumalanga, but met much later while pursuing their dreams in music.
It hasn’t been an easy journey for Bongani who left school in Grade 10 due to financial issues at home. He says he began with a dream to be an actor, and when that failed to take off, he became a construction worker as a plaster in Nelspruit, when he was just a teen. A chance meeting in 2009 with a producer who took Bongani under his wing and showed him the ins and outs of studio work would lead him to a fulfilling career in music.
His network quickly expanded and he was soon in studios in Soshanguve with Diblos and got to work with more musicians from dance, Afro-pop and Amapiano circles.
Part of their appeal was what Tumelo explains as a “Mega influence” and unique drums arrangement, as well as how they mixed and entertained audiences. They also wore matching outfits and revellers couldn’t get enough of their colourful drip that made them look like stylish twins on stage.
