Al Young founded Megapenny Music in the late 1970s, immersed in the era of analogue synths and multi-track tape. With a background in classical piano and a deep passion for electronic music, he transitioned from successfully managing bands to designing and building his own synthesizers. Some of his custom-built synths found their way into the hands of early '80s bands and support acts. Alongside this, he experimented with tape loops and multitracking, refining his sound.
After a 40-year hiatus from music production, Al reignited his creative journey in 2024, setting out to write and produce a new Euro pop single. This led to his collaboration with French singer Delphine Savatte. Together, they recorded Grains of Sand, which was officially released on 21st February 2025 under Megapenny Music. The single launched across multiple online platforms, marking Al’s return to the music industry and the next chapter in his creative career.
