MEL the Angry Native is a CHamoru lyricist from the island of Guam. Raised on 90's hip hop, MEL's flow is unapologetic and hard-hitting, portraying the realities of life in an unincorporated territory. An educator by trade, MEL uses hip hop and poetry as a tool for empowerment and liberation. The self-described "rap-tivist," got his start busting rhymes in poetry slams and underground cyphers. MEL worked for years in the public school system and in non-profit community education, while rocking shows in the local music scene on Guam. MEL is smooth and deliberate, aggressive and articulate, but most of all, he is an authentic contemporary Pacific Islander voice.
