Mercaptan started as the solo project of Kovacs Zoltan (then 16) in 2020, helped by the global pandemic and the lot of free time it gave. The first album 'Shadows Of The Cross' came out in 2021, with highlights such as 'Suicide mission', 'Addiction, suicide' and 'Lifeline', and received a lot of mixed criticism. After the release of 'Shadows Of The Cross' began a long and dragged out writing process for the second album by accumulating the criticism and trying to avoid the same mistakes. In the meantime, Mercaptan also played some shows in Romania in the summer of 2023 most notably at Maris Fest. In 2024 the band released their sophomore record 'Social Injustice' with notable highlights such as 'The Beginning Of My End', 'People Too Soon Dead', 'Children Of The Damned' and surprisingly 'Solitary Exasperation'. The album was relatively well received and following its success it was later released on CD through 'Damned Pages Distro/Label'. The next step came in 2025 when the band decided to record this third album entitled 'Enslavement Of All The Weak'. While the writing and recording process started the same as before, with Zoltan playing all the instruments, it ended with the 16 year old young guitar virtuoso Ianis Morar joining the project and laying down the guitar solos. This album, while it clearly follows the path the band has started, it also implements progressive elements.
Currently the band is still searching for a drummer.
