At the heart of Messiness lies a remarkable journey, steered by Sicilian polymath Max Raffa – singer, composer, multi-instrumentalist, writer, and sociologist. His path has carved through Europe’s cultural landscapes, from sun-bleached Balearic shores to British harbour towns, where he performed with various rock’n’roll bands while conducting ethnographic research that would later shape his musical vision. After gallivanting across half of the continent, Raffa finally landed in Milan’s shadowy outskirts. There, in the gritty underbelly of Italy’s fashion capital, he assembled a proper motley crew: Rosario Lo Monaco wielding the guitars, Filippo La Marca manning the keys, Giovanni Calella thumping the bass, and Luca Anello keeping the beat. Their sound defies simple categorisation – a mesmerising fusion that echoes through time and space. Ancient Mediterranean traditions flow into pulsating metropolitan rhythms, while psychedelic reveries evolve into celestial space rock territories. Southern European harmonies merge with art pop sensibilities, Canterbury scene experimentation melds with Mediterranean memories, and Northern European urban nights transform into the golden dawns over the Strait of Messina.
