With the release of their studio album 'Metrocelli', the four cellists of the Metropole Orkest – Joel Siepmann, Emile Visser, Annie Tångberg en Jascha Albracht – prove how versatile a cello can really be.
The quartet combines a broad musical taste and knowledge with a good dose of creativity and improvisation. The MO Cello's are specialists in crossover and play classics from dance, pop and light classical music in self-written arrangements.
"The Metropole Orkest is a versatile orchestra, and the Metropole Orkest Cellos have the same ambition; to play all kinds of music. As a cello group we like different styles and we also like to groove and improvise.
Our group’s journey started when, during the Covid lockdown, we shot a video from our homes to welcome Joel as the newest Metropole cellist. It gave us positive vibes and so, being all experienced writers, we started writing arrangements to play with just the four of us. Within no time at all, we had prepared more than 20 arrangements. While the Metropole Orkest was unable to rehearse and perform together, we went on playing these arrangements before audiences at various occasions, and by doing so being ambassadors of the orchestra."
