Born in De Aar, Northern Cape, MIA is the personification of
multi-talented. The 20-year-old singer/songwriter is inspired by
Beyoncé and Jazmine Sullivan.
Having participated in numerous talent shows from the age of 7,
being driven by her passion she decided to put her talent to the
test by going to South African Idols and reaching the top 30 at
the age of 16. She went on to win Best New Artist in her province
in the same year. The young artist took a leap of faith, leaving
home and moving more than 700 km to Johannesburg to pursue
a music career.
She built a fanbase utilizing TikTok, which exposed her to a
global audience. With videos reaching over 1M views, she has
seen reactions and comments from Hrs and Hrs singer Muni
Long, James Vickery, and local artists including Nkosazana
Daughter, Sino Msolo, Yumbs, and De Mthuda.
MIA released her debut EP titled "The Other Side" on the 16th of
June and reached the top 40 charts on Apple Music within a day
of release, she was also announced as Apple Music's Up Next
artist for June/July. Since releasing her EP, she sold out her onewoman
show with the R&B platform “Strictly Soul”. She also
performed at Homecoming Africa, one of South Africa’s biggest
music festivals. In 2024, she opened for American singer Xavier
