Michaela McKiernan is a Louisville-based artist shaping ethereal dream pop at the intersection of intimacy and atmosphere. Her debut single, “Hate to Say Goodbye,” released in December 2025, drifts through layers of hazy dream pop melodies, capturing the quiet devastation of loving something you know you must eventually release. A bittersweet essence of old memories mixed with the excitement of what’s to come.
Following an earlier release under the name Mod Kiddo in collaboration with Craig Pfunder of VHS Or Beta, McKiernan now steps fully into her solo work. Her forthcoming EP, produced by John Alagia (John Mayer, Liz Phair), expands her sound into something more spacious and phantasmal—music made for long drives, lonely nights, and the emotional aftermath of connection and loss.
Drawing from the melancholy of This Mortal Coil, the muted vulnerability of Elliot Smith, and the radiant calm of Mazzy Star, McKiernan’s work blurs the line between dream pop and confessional songwriting. Her first and second solo EPs are slated for release in early and mid-2026, marking the beginning of a resonant new chapter.
