Michele Lynn, bassist for Philadelphia area musician Andrea Nardello, has played on many bands’ albums over the years. Michele has put together her own album, which has the important focus of raising awareness for suicide prevention. Michele lost her son David to suicide in 2013. One of the ways she dealt with, and continues to deal with, her immense grief and loss is by writing poetry. The poems’ themes encompass each phase of Michele’s grief, from outright depression to coping and trying to find hope.
With the goal of bringing light to suicide awareness and prevention, Michele teamed up with 17 of her musician friends to co-write songs based on her works. Together with producer Ross Bellenoit, Michele and her friends created an album called “Vilomahed.” “Vilomah,” is a word taken from Sanskrit by Karla Holloway, of Duke University, which essentially means an unnatural loss, as in our children should not proceed their parents in death. If they do, we are “Vilomahed.”
Despite the album’s diverse musical lineup, Michele and her collaborators have created a cohesive work that provides a beautiful glimpse into the pain and healing experienced by survivors of suicide, that is at times both heartbreaking and hopeful.
Winner of the 93.7 WSTW 11th annual Hometown Heroes Homey Awards:
Artist of the Year – Michele Lynn

Best Collaboration – Vilomahed
