Having always thought of her music as something for the soul, she writes for what has been, what is and what has yet to come. Michelle Gatuiku is a singer, songwriter and performing artist who doubles as a Medicine student at the University of Nairobi on her day-to-day.
Born and raised in the heart of Nairobi, her music, much like herself, is ever-evolving, constantly
being re-moulded as she pours the lessons inflicted by age, politics, friendships, family and love into her art.
Initially pursuing it as a hobby, she found herself singing in high school where she excelled as a soprano soloist. Realising how much she enjoyed music and performance, she decided to pursue it beyond high school and so joined the Spellcast company, where she performed in theatre and musicals. These slowly helped her build confidence in both herself and her voice. Towards the end of 2016, she decided to study music performance and the music industry and joined Kenya’s esteemed music school, Sauti Academy, where she grew her song-writing skills.
In 2018, founded her own platform, The Little Concert Sessions, a small and intimate event she organizes herself, hosting and performing alongside well-known artists such as Ciano Maimba, Kaskazini, Wanja Wohoro and Emma Cheruto. She is currently working on releasing her debut E.P - Sky Up Above - in January 2021. A body of worked inspired by the lights and sounds of the outside; and slow musings, upon looking inward.
