With Invisible Highways, Midnight Lands has transformed from the solo project of Chapel Hill producer/multi-instrumentalist Ben Averch to a power duo, adding Austin TX-based guitarist and songwriter Mike Averch. The resulting combination trades in the garage rock of Destroy the World for more echoing, three-dimensional guitar sounds that reach for faraway places and recall shoegaze legends Swervedriver.

Invisible Highways paints a vivid landscape of life's intricacies, from the fleeting moments of hope and transformation to the enduring presence of love and resilience in the face of uncertainty. With poetic lyrics that evoke imagery both celestial and terrestrial, Invisible Highways captures the essence of being human – navigating the shadow roads, embracing the golden hours, and finding solace in the midst of chaos. The songs invite the audience to explore themes of time, connection, and the interplay of light and darkness.

Ben and Mike powered the twin guitar attack for 90s-era Boston indie rock band Bison, and their near-telepathic bond pays dividends on Invisible Highways. Anchored by Ben as rhythm section and vocalist, the record showcases the brothers’ complementary approaches to songwriting as they alternate tracks as composer and primary guitarist. The resulting variety in sonic approach and composing styles keeps the record fresh and surprising over its ten tracks.
