Miles Jenson wields a thrilling genre-defying aesthetic just as much inspired by Stax Records as Radiohead and Fiona Apple. His debut EP, Sunshine Goldmine, produced by Grammy-winner King Garbage (Jon Batiste, The Weeknd, Leon Bridges) features dark, lush production and deep-pocket grooves, interrogating societal themes and reflecting a mercurial essence. Music was casual for Jenson while mired in active alcoholism, but eventually, he got sober and signed a record contract in Atlanta. Craving artistic freedom, he left the label and moved to LA where he wriggled out of conventional pop music through a program of singles. His next move was a cold call to producer King Garbage to do one single. King Garbage, impressed by Jenson’s new music, encouraged him to record an EP. “He was the first person that understood what I was doing. He made me feel seen,” Jenson says. The resulting Sunshine Goldmine, is a soulfully theatrical three-song EP, confronting racism, classism, societal conditioning, neuroses, self-evolution, and obsession. “I speak candidly about my flaws because, when you’re honest, you invite in grace,” Jenson says. Up next, Jenson will record his debut album with King Garbage. “I want someone to hear my music and say ‘I always have struggled to name that feeling and now it has a name,’” he explains. “That’s what it’s always been about for me. It’s such a relief when you hear your feelings articulated in a song.”
