Los Angeles based duo Minus 2 is comprised of ex-professional football players Collin Charles and J. Black. The two met while playing football together at Iowa State University and developed a close friendship as teammates and eventually roommates. After a few years of pursuing their respective post-collegiate athletic careers, the two reunited in 2017 with music being the newly discovered foundation of their friendship. Since then they've tapped into a sound described as retro-future that fuses soulful lyrics and melody lines with alternative dance instrumentals.
Though football was the primary focus for Collin Charles for many years, music creation has always been prominent in his life. He wears many hats for Minus 2 as a multi-instrumentalist, producer, composer, engineer and vocalist, creating the soundscapes that provide the mood for the listener.
Music for J. Black on the other hand is a new creative endeavor as of 2017 but his heartfelt lyrics and easy delivery as lead vocalist would make you think otherwise. The Houston native gives credit to his father for his eclectic taste in music, art, OutKast, Swisha House & Daft Punk, as some of his major influences.
Together, with the rich voice and southern roots of J. Black shining through the sunset inspired, elegant production of Collin Charles, the two are a creative force that aims to spread love and create a vibe to bring people of all categories together.
