Mir Dupin

Mir Dupin is a solo project of a Jakarta (Indonesia) based producer and composer Gatya Ranu. The character Mir Dupin itself was created to write and tell stories in ways that are new and different than Ranu’s previous projects as a way to unbind him from a suffocating writer’s block. The character’s birth also acts as a representation of Ranu entering a new chapter in life as he reaches adulthood and forced to face much more complicated life events in which he’d then pour into music through the eyes of Mir Dupin.


Dupin’s musical journey started the day he wrote ‘Waterfallians’. The song was intended to tell a story of a heartbreak in a cheery and uplifting point of view. Being satisfied with the music Ranu wrote through the perspective of Dupin, he then continued to write countless songs that will eventually be available for the world to enjoy. Dupin adopted a songwriting style that are influenced by the music of the 70s, especially soul, folk, and even soft rock (Stevie Wonder, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon, Bread, etc.) With the modern style of production and influences of today’s popular music, Dupin hoped to create music that displays beautiful and complex composition, yet still easily enjoyable for anyone to listen, such as music in the likes of John Mayer, Bruno Mars, St. Vincent, Hozier, and many more.
