<a href="spotify:artist:5pKzcrPtuOg2ZyKQKTXcKs" data-name="Arto Vaun">Arto Vaun</a>'s first project, the bass-less indie pop duo Mishima USA (with drummer Sean O'Brien), released their first 7" in 1999, which led to appearances on several compilations and a nomination at the 2000 Boston Music Awards (for Best New Rock Band on an Indie Label). Their debut full-length, Hold My Breath, was issued on the Boston-based Catapult label in 2001 and received a 7.9 on Pitchfork. The pair honed their live act opening for such renowned artists as Rufus Wainwright, Ben Kweller, Daniel Johnston, Wheat, Kimya Dawson and Mark Eitzel. They never officially broke up and actually have a second finished album that will be released in late 2024!
