MJSTK is a synergy of Mike Sydnor’s spirited vocal style and melodic, yet driving bass; Jack Martin’s impeccable voice and tasteful guitarwork; Sue Larson’s majestic voice and evocative lyrics; Tony Stephan’s powerful and masterful drumming skill and inspired lyrics, and Kurt Larson’s impressive prog-rock guitar style and soaring, intricate solos.
Their new release, MJSTK 12, includes twelve tracks that take the listener to a vantage point from which to explore dimensions of human existence—love, peace, war, brotherhood, ambition, abandonment, inspiration, and ultimately, hope.
On MJSTK 12, Sue, Jack, Mike, and Kurt share lead vocals, while also blending angelic harmonies. Mike Sydnor’s bass riffs inspire the band’s songwriting, and Jack Martin showcases his guitar talents—from textured layers to melodic solos. Kurt Larson’s guitar prowess, which can kindle subtle complexity and also ignite scorching solos, elevates each track to a sensuous level. Tony Stephan's drumming is the heartbeat—ranging from delicate, complex percussion to commanding fills and rhythms.
Soundscapes accompany several tracks, submerging the listener in an audio experience that deepens meaning and interpretation. Kurt’s first and last tracks conceptually bookend the album, beginning with Event Horizon, a cosmic, high-speed ride through each musical theme, and ending with String Theory Suite, a three-part epic guitar instrumental: Part I, Unification; Part II, Desolo (abandoned); and Part III, Hope.
