Rising musician, Mlapa, creates stimulating, beat-driven music that draws on a range of influences to create a fresh new sound.
Known by his stage name Mlapa, electronic producer & songwriter Tom Walker hails from the streets of Brisbane, Australia. However, having spent his childhood growing up in South East Asia, Mlapa was exposed to a wide range of music, and cultures from a young age. After spending the time to listen to his work, it becomes evident that this multicultural upbringing is central to his identity as a musician.
He was writing songs alone in his bedroom on his guitar from an early age, but it wasn't until he was introduced to the world of music production from his elder cousin, a local successful Sydney based DJ, that the seeds were planted.
When asked about his influences in an interview in early 2018, he responded with "musicians who are trying new things, and are trying to push music to new places".
