Modest Midget began its life when Lionel "Lonny" Ziblat recruited saxophonist Emiel de Jong to contribute on the 2010 debut album, The Great Prophecy of a Small Man. Ziblat played most of the other instruments in this production but he soon felt the need to play live. He assembled a touring band that included keyboardist Tristan Hupe & other backing players, and they went on tour. This original incarnation of the band eventually dissipated and after a 2011 break Ziblat & Hupe reconvened, enlisting bassist Maarten Bakker and drummer Willem Smit for a new tour and a new album: Crysis (2014).
Imagine trying to create a salad based on pickles, olives, chocolate, honey and feta cheese. This is what Lonny and is gang set out to do with their music. Different styles and genres met each other under one roof, offering a repertoire of pure fun & seriousness at the same time. This band is on a mission to freshen-up Prog Rock, and bring their audiences friendly & attractive tunes as well as complex compositions.
The Great Prophecy of a Small Man, the debut album that Lonny produced and published in 2010 has received unanymous enthusiastic reviews from dozens of music magazines around the world, including among others the Dutch Music Maker, Revolver (Lust For Life) & Oor Magazine (the most prominent Pop magazine in the Netherlands). Several publications nominated it as one of the top 10 albums of the year, some going as far as nominating it as the best debut of 2010.
