Massachusetts, U.S. Indie singer/songwriter Molly Parmenter gives us songs that ache with the stinging sincerity of love, lust, and loss. Raw emotion burns under the surface, only quieted at times by shadows of thoughtful restraint.
Soon after her father began teaching her guitar as a teenager, Parmenter began composing her own songs, combining a love of poetry with the solace and empowerment she found in the music of independent female singer-songwriters like PJ Harvey, Fiona Apple, and Neko Case. Moved by the passion of classic soul singers like Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, and Al Green, and by the fragility of folk singers/poets such as Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen, Parmenter soon found her own voice, often described as sultry and sad.
Songwriting proved to be a crucial outlet for self-expression and survival, although it wasn’t until many years later that Parmenter was able to overcome demons and take to the stage and recording studio. She is currently working on her sophomore album, with the first single “Hitchhiker”, set for release on 2/8/22.
