When Justin Nicholls aka MONC released his first EP in 1999 he was blazing a trail for all independent music artists. From his tiny Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles studio, he was one of the first artists in the world to launch himself and his own record label online with ‘no corporate interference’. His groundbreaking website and unique music soon achieved international press attention and two top ten hits in the CMJ independent charts. His 10-piece band comprised of some of LA’s finest musicians quickly gained a reputation as an impressive and exciting live act. Reviewers described Monc as:
