Monogatari (物語)

Monogatari, meaning “story” in Japanese, is a unique musical project that tells narratives without words. Through compositions blending deep house, drum and bass, hyper-pop, and jazz, trombonist and composer Balthazar Bodin creates immersive experiences where every note sparks a deep emotional response.

Trained at the Conservatoire de Paris and accepted to the Manhattan School of Music in New York, Balthazar has performed with prestigious ensembles such as the Orchestre National de Jazz. On stage, he weaves together trombone, trumpet, keyboards, and live samples on his laptop. This approach allows him to merge the harmonic richness of jazz with the striking sound design of electronic music.

Drawing inspiration from a wide range of artists, from Coltrane to SOPHIE, Balthazar builds with Monogatari a bridge between two worlds: the introspection of jazz and the raw energy of EDM. His musical storytelling incorporates film excerpts, interviews, and textured sounds to connect audiences through shared narratives. In doing so, he invites listeners to feel and share stories through music, offering a poetic and powerful experience that celebrates both emotion and the art of storytelling.
