Monotop is a Swedish duo from the vast forests of the western Wermland, producing and writing electronic pop with lyric poetry in Swedish. Markus Hedelin (aka Zapoteke) and Henrik Emilsson (aka Peter Panskijw) have played together and collaborated in numerous constellations since the early 1990s. In the year of 2009 they started what would become Monotop as a project with the intentions of implementing ideas that aligned with their common view on music, poetry, and ethics. The concept is a mix of: the sound landscape of the 80’s electronic music, a big scoop of Swedish Folk Tone, celebration of modern Swedish poets like Olle Ljungström and Lars Demian, and Krautrock 2.0 - all equally important ingredients in a Monotop Production.
In 2013 the first Monotop release appeared - Albumet a 12 track album showing a various palette of what to come and more. This has been followed by two EPs:
Samtid (2014) and Ensamma Platser (2016). The latter including remixes by Dwayne Sodahberk, Fred White and Spanish Powerstation. In the absence of new releases from Monotop up until 2021 Markus and Henrik has worked on other projects like special designed music for dance performances, producing and recording other artists as well as remix projects. Henrik also released a solo project as Peter Panskijw in 2020.
In 2021 there will be several new releases with both mint fresh material and things recorded and produced over the years.
