I think there are 3 sides to every story. The truth, the lie & what you want it to be, AKA the fantasy…
And when you’re a little girl growing up in a world where shame, fear & societal labels is saturated in your awareness…
Building fantasies is a welcome embrace. A world where you can run free.
My tool of choice was words.
I fell utterly in love with them, their power to create worlds & make you feel something. Anything.
I would devour stacks of fairytales with the same eagerness I soaked in my Grandmothers’ raspy sing-song voices when they told me folklores.
Grassroots reggae music, blues & old school Nigerian music formed the soundtracks of my childhood back in Port-Harcourt Nigeria…
And they all quietly made their way into my heart & subconscious, forming a huge part of my musical inspiration today.
I've also being mad inspired by J.Cole, Damian Marley, Lana Del Rey & their immaculate pen-game.
With music, I’m really just chasing nostalgia in the crevices of chords, drums & melodies and I use my love for wordplay to do so.
More importantly, I’m creating my own fantasy, telling the stories I want to hear & building worlds I want to live in.
Go on & cop a feel. If it makes you feel SOMETHING, that'll mean EVERYTHING to me.
Oh and... If you read the whole thing, I’m looking at you weird but also, I like you.
Let's be friends.
