Moongold is an American band of rotating members based in Denver, CO and Washington, DC. Heavily influenced by soul music of the 60s and 70s, Moongold started as a Downtempo project combining sampled rare soul records and live instrumentation. Over time Moongold has taken a more traditional soul, rhythm and blues sound as members have moved in and out of the project. They have been compared to other American artists such as Lake Street Dive and The Night Sweats. Being fans of science fiction, Moongold takes its name from an original album artwork concept depicting a sci-fi book cover of astronauts mining for gold on the moon.
Moongold evokes some of the best elements of soul/jazz musicians like Reuben Wilson and the downtempo, trip-hop sounds of Bonobo mixed with the electronic style of someone like Jon Kennedy. The music was inspired by the intersection of soul, trip-hop and electronic music.
