Moonlight Mile is an Appalachian Alt Country band fronted by Jonathan Pennington, and formed in Sandy Hook, KY in 2021.
Pennington was heavily influenced by the soundtrack of his childhood. Pennington grew up in the same hometown as Country Legend Keith Whitley, and learned to sing harmony from listening to old Ralph Stanley records. Pennington also immersed himself in the 90s Alternative sounds of Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden and Dinosaur Jr, and the psychedelic sounds of the late 60’s and 70’s of Jimi Hendrix, The Band, Procol Harum, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd and David Bowie.
Moonlight Mile has shared bills with accomplished artists such as Wynonna Judd, Koe Wetzel, Paul Cauthen, Lost Dog Street Band, 49 Winchester, Dwight Yoakam, Ralph Stanley II, Logan Halstead, Sundy Best, Leftover Salmon, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades, The Steel Drivers, Infamous Stringdusters, The Band of Heathens, Don Rigsby, Buffalo Wabs and The Price Hill Hustle, Arlo McKinley, and Nolan Taylor.
The band is poised as a voice for those many impoverished and destitute in rural Appalachia, gripped by the sting of addiction, brow-beaten by fanatical religiosity, and oppressed by fascist regimes.
Moonlight Mile will release their first studio album Good Friday, April 18, 2025, Sad Songs from Sandy Hook produced by Tony Wray.
