Mossy Strings

Growing up in small-town Iowa, I bounced around between parents, playing sports at 2 of 3 schools. 3 felt like a scene straight out of The Outsiders—pure hell For reasons I could only guess, and a group of assholes only new.

That’s when everything changed. I grew my hair out, dressed goth, ( It was the nineties after all lol) and decided I didn’t need to fit in or be friends with anyone. I embraced who I truly was. ME. I’ve always valued real, sincere people and can’t stand the fake ones. I started planning my life through the lens of my old soul.

I had some wild ideas, People told me I wouldn’t make it on my own, so I packed a bag and moved to Utah at 18. I wanted to travel and make a living off my music, and that’s what I did. I wanted to live outside the norm and do what I want, when I want, I’ve achieved that.

People told me I’d never get my music released. Some said I had no rhythm. That guy is still stuck in Podunk, Iowa, crying about his miserable life. Meanwhile, I own an independent record label, and Mossy Strings as an artist name. I’m living proof that if you ignore your haters and stay true to yourself, you can move mountains while they remain stuck in the same old rut. The world is an oyster for those with the fire, will, and passion to tell those holding you back to take a hike—family, friend, or foe.
