As the garage rock outfit Redneck Buddha saw its final legs, lead singer and bassist Julian Patrick Sundaram decided to quickly start another project, Mr. Kraken & the Wattz. In it, the young musician instantly displayed the different sounds he would explore under this new guise. Starting off with the single “Loverboy” in early 2019, the man who would now be known as Mr. Kraken would demonstrate his passion for synths while mixing them with his haunting blues- influenced vocals.
Not long after, while living outside of Puerto Rico, Mr. Kraken & the Wattz would make a more proper debut presentation in March 2019 with the release of the EP Don Cabrón. With this project, Mr. Kraken fuses garage rock, indie rock, dance rock, surf rock and funk along with bilingual and blues-influenced vocals and storytelling lyrics as he continues to experiment with different genres that would expand the Krakenian soundscape.
Later in 2019, Mr. Kraken would release the singles “Fiend” and “Algún Día Moriré”. The first of these is a highly danceable rock tune that continues to show the artist’s experimentation within the genre. Meanwhile, “Algún Día Moriré” is a melancholic ballad fueled by love and nostalgia. As of 2020, Mr. Kraken continues to bend genres as he works on the production of his upcoming second project.
