Mr. The King

Mr. The King was born Marcus Kingston, growing up in a gritty neighborhood on the outskirts of Detroit. From an early age, music was his sanctuary, a way to drown out the violence and hardship that surrounded him. Tragedy struck at the age of 12 when Marcus lost his older brother, a gifted guitarist who was his musical mentor, in a senseless drive-by shooting. Devastated but determined, Marcus channeled his grief into music, teaching himself multiple instruments and creating music that evokes strong emotions of resilience and defiance.

Despite his talent, Marcus faced constant criticism from those who doubted him, urging him to follow a traditional path. Undeterred by judgment and confident in his own vision, he enrolled in college to study business, hoping it might satisfy his family’s expectations. However, Marcus quickly realized his passion could not be contained in lecture halls, and after flunking out in his 2nd year, he boldly decided to move to LA to fully dedicate himself to music.

Upon arrival in LA, Marcus adopted the stage name “Mr. The King,” symbolizing his belief in his own potential and his defiance of social norms. He began performing in underground clubs and street corners, gaining attention for his raw authenticity, unapologetic feelings, and magnetic stage presence. His experiences fueled music that blended gritty hip-hop beats, soulful melodies, and rock-infused energy, resonating deeply with fans who saw their own struggles reflected in his journey.
