Today, Naarm punk / hip hop artist MUDRAT releases his new single YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT POOR PEOPLE.
Maybe it was a class war after all?
I HATE RICH C*NTS walked so YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT POOR PEOPLE could run.
YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT POOR PEOPLE enacts an unlikely hero's journey and presents a satirical conversation between MUDRAT and a mysterious bartender. Introducing Big Johnny & Little Becky—MUDRAT criticises both toxic masculine tropes “Andy Tate, snowflake, bet another parlay, crypto, shit blow, from the G to RH (Royal Melbourne Hotel)” whilst intersecting said commentary with inner-city political gentrification & white feminism “Peace and love, emblematic, racking speed esoteric, partying with poor friends, wear them like an aesthetic.”
The chorus is direct & its message unmistakable: “ I don't care about poor people, you don't care about poor people, don’t care about poor, poor, poor, poor, poor people.” The third act foresees the bartender revealing his identity as a man of the people and enlightening MUDRAT to see that beyond Johnny and Becky stands THE MAN—a not-so-subtle nod to the Elon Musk and Gina Rhinehart billionaire class.
SOCIAL COHESION the debut project from MUDRAT will be dropping later in 2025
