Mummypowder didn't waste much time going from an unknown Helsinki band with a 4-song demo tape to a minor national indie sensation. Giving their first major newspaper interviews before they'd played their debut gig, the band quickly proceeded to sign to a major label, perform live on national television, and play their 10th ever gig at the legendary CBGB's club in New York.
Becoming the first record produced by producer Nick Triani after he relocated to Finland, Mummypowder's 1999 debut album, "The Heavyweight Champions", was a charming mixture of beautiful melodies and screeching guitars but, alas, proved to be the last with the original line-up.
The follow-up album, 2003's "V. Strange" was very much a solo effort by singer songwriter Janne Lehtinen who wrote, performed, and produced the album with little outside contribution. The following year's "Consternation! Uproar!" included their biggest hit thus far, "Don't Hold Your Breath", whose animated video earned them Mtv rotation, followed by a Japan release and a small tour in Tokyo to promote the album.
Having taken the band 15 years to put out their first 4 critically acclaimed albums followed by nearly a 10 year hiatus, frontman Janne Lehtinen, besides collaborating with the band's original guitar player Aleksi Pahkala (a.k.a. Local Al) on two 2019 Christmas singles and an album project based on lyrics written by poet Harri Hertell, is finally releasing Mummypowder's comeback single, Sara's Song in September 2020.
