Hastings punk duo Murderers Are Optimists return with their high-energy new single, ‘Getaway. ‘It’s a reflection on Hastings before gentrification,” says vocalist Paul Sunshine. “We’ve always loved this town But Hastings had character long before the Airbnbs and overpriced latte’s.
Bassist Jo Gonzo adds, “Our songs come straight from what’s happening around us—whether it’s corrupt politicians or just waking up in a bush after a wild night out it always turns into a song.”
Known for their chaotic and unpredictable performances, the murderers have earned a reputation as “one of the region’s most thrilling punk bands.” Their last two singles—‘Criminals’ (ft Jack Wilson of Kid Kapichi) and their riotous set-opener ‘Air Crash Investigation’—earned airplay on BBC Radio 1’s, cementing their place as one of the UK’s most exciting punk acts. They’ve also become regulars on BBC Introducing and are always delivering raucous sold-out shows across the South
John Robb (Louder Than War) described their music as “intense lad rock with a heavier edge… fascinating and full of energy.”
The Hastings duo are set to tear through seaside towns in support of ‘Getaway,’ as well as joining Kid Kapichi for some shows..
Their sound? A chaotic mix of punk and Britpop, drawing influences from the Sex Pistols to… Dua Lipa (?!). With relentless energy and no filter, the murderers are proving why they’re one of the most electrifying names on the South Coast punk scene.
