My Gold Mask started in 2009 as an experimental home recording project between longstanding musical collaborators Gretta Rochelle and Jack Armondo. Since then the bands music has been featured in numerous blogs, fashion shows and on TV. But My Gold Mask's true passion and focus was always exploring new musical territory and growing as artists. Not concerned with classifications, My Gold Mask's songs bring to mind their own unique blend of cross boundary influences while a unifying "dark pop" undercurrent threads together their now classic underground catalog. Melodic and moody, MGM's music proved to be an influential brew to numerous indie artists while opening for national acts such as The New Pornographers, Metric, Twin Shadow, Blonde Redhead and Phantogram.
In 2018 Jack formed the Darkwave solo project: "Panic Priest" while Gretta pursued a career as a Sommelier. But the band's fanbase persists, ensuring My Gold Mask will pop up again in one form or another somewhere in the future.
“…epic breakdowns, mini guitar symphonies, massive drum and cymbal crashes, and lusty choruses. It’s referential without feeling canned; a rambunctious DIY energy mortars together the big moments.” – Pitchfork
“dark-pop purveyors who cut their thick, smoky atmospherics with buoyant rhythms and elevated melody.” – SPIN
“Gretta Rochelle’s vocals paired with the bubbly synths and heavy-hitting percussion shows just how versatile the band’s sounds have become.” – NOISEY
