MZA is a Japanese-Singaporean artist. His earliest musical influences were from his mom's pop music in the day and digging through his dad’s jazz crates by night.
He makes underground electronic music that’s strongly influenced by his inspirations as a teenager. Influenced by a holy trinity of John Coltrane, Gang Starr and Massive Attack. His music seeks to explore and sample sounds found from deep dusty grooves. Creating a new sonic universe for the modern age.
As a DJ, he has played regular gigs at places like Kilo Lounge, Choice Cuts Goods + Coffee and for events such as Good Times and Sneaker Pimps. As a newly minted producer, he has played for Singaporean electronic producer Intriguant’s beat invitational night, Uploading. MZA reunites with the inimitable producer for the Alt. Residency program and under his guidance will release two new singles.
“Liquid Ocelot” a liquid drum & bass track that meanders through the dark underbelly of the clubs and invokes heavy DJ Krush-like sampling prowess. On “Eldritch Terror (Prelude)” he summons heavy clouded downtempo rhythms bringing you drunken vibes that will alter your consciousness. A prelude to deeper vibes to come.
