Born and bred in Oakland, California Nappy Nina honed her craft as a rapper within the vibrant tapestry of the Bay Area music scene. After moving to Brooklyn, she co-founded the indie record label Lucid Haus and emerged as part of an avant-garde Black music community. Her groundbreaking debut album, The Tree Act was released in 2019, to widespread acclaim and international recognition.
She has collaborated with luminaries such as Ambrose Akinmusire, Quelle Chris, Yaeji, Pink Sifu, Son Lux, Moor Mother and Lucid Haus label-mate Stas Thee Boss (formerly of THEESatisfaction).
Nappy Nina's gifts as a storyteller are undeniable. Since Tree Act, she’s released several EP’s, including: 30 bag, Double Down, Dumb Doubt and her sophomore album, Mourning Due, which she toured throughout Europe and Australia in 2023.
