Nathan Hall and the Sinister Locals is a Cardiff based psychedelic group, which shares some of the same members as Soft Hearted Scientists. The Sinister Locals formed in 2017. Nathan Hall on Vocals, Guitars, Organs and Analogue Synths, and electronics and percussion. Michael Bailey on Bass Guitar. Frank Naughton guesting on drums and keyboards now and again. Spencer Segelov guesting on drums now and again. Sharing a love of The Beach Boys, The Kinks, The Byrds, The Incredible String Band, Love, Air, Kraftwerk, The Beta Band, Gorky's Zygotic Mynci and early Super Furry Animals (Fuzzy Logic and Radiator), and the writing of Richard Brautigan, the group uses guitars, antique keyboards, electronics and even household objects to make often extremely intricate magic realist music which aims to transport the listener. The group has released 7 albums so far - Effigies (2017), Mute Effigies Soundtracks (2018) Tunguska Tydfil (2018), Scattersparks (2019), On the Blink (2020), Pointing Paw (2021) and Golden Fleece (2022) .

The subject matter of the lyrics is vast in scope, including mythical creatures, Covid Cabin Fever, horrible job interviews, genocide, ridiculous life choices, lost love, melodramatic Sunday morning comedowns, female assassins, and the moon's exasperation at witnessing the hideous events on earth.
