Hailing from Richmond, VA, but currently calling Mexico City home, indie/alternative band Neatly Drawn Blinds is headed by Nathan Burns, with contributions from Rob Dessimoz (Strange Cut) and Josh Schmidt (Schmidt).
EP and single releases between 2020-2021 were an introduction to NDB’s style of an acoustic base layer, colorful electric leads, and an occasional synth or keyboard element.
Last year, the band put out their debut album, which featured a typical “indie” sound in the vein of Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever and The Beths. On upcoming efforts, you’ll hear a more polished product, albeit with a similar instrumentation. “I tend to always write on acoustic, but as the song unfolds that sometimes just becomes a supporting layer as other sounds fill in around it,” says Burns, the chief songwriter. Another part of NDB’s development can be noted in the exploration of background vocals and harmonies. “Even though I’m not a natural singer, there was definitely a concerted attempt to try to elevate parts of these new songs with pure vocals.”
The result is a mature soundscape that ticks all the alternative boxes.
Expect new music from Neatly Drawn Blinds this spring/summer and into the winter months.
