Singer-songwriter NEKEITA is an independent Guyanese recording artiste and all round performer. Her sultry style transcends various genres, placing her amongst the top female names in Guyana’s entertainment industry.
Born Tennicia Nekeita Neshena De Freitas, she hails from a small Amerindian village, Kuru- Kururu, where she’s always had a profound love for the performing arts from a very tender age. She is a former three times childrren's calypso monarch, a two times junior calypso mornarch and has over the years garnered other major successes.
In May 2020, she made an active return after a few years’ hiatus from the local music scene. NEKEITA, as she is now called, resumed recording and releasing new material. Her single, ‘Rise,’ quickly became a household favourite which was later featured on major online entertainment platforms. She competed in the 2021 and 2022 Soca Monarch competition in Guyana where she emerged the 2nd and 3rd runner up respectively. To date her titles and accomplishments sought her performing at major events in and out of Guyana, including the 2020 World Expo, hosted in Dubai in October, 2021 and in Jamaica as part of JARIA’s annual Reggae Month celebrations 2022. NEKEITA is also a lead singer of the Heatwave Band in Guyana and has over the years performed with and as a background vocalist for many regional and international artists.
