Neospora

Neospora is a prog-influenced symphonic metal project from Umeå, Sweden, formed in 2019.

Biography

2019

The project was started by drummer and songwriter Andreas Walfridsson who hired Christoffer Lindmark (guitars, bass, mixing), and Mikaela Ward (vocals) to record a single, Despondency, released in early 2019.

In late 2019, Giardia (vocalist) joined the project to record the next single, I am beat, released in December the same year.

2020

To this point, the sound of Neospora had been described as Nightwish-esque, but Andreas wanted to take the project in a slightly more progressive direction. During the first wave of the covid-19 pandemic, Andreas wrote multiple songs incorporating some elements and rhythms common in progressive rock/metal music.

In late June, 2020, Neospora revealed that Mimmi Eliasson (vocals in In This Grey) had joined the project as a full-time-singer, a few weeks later she did her first appearance in Neospora as the new single, Reckless, was released.

The 30th of November 2020, Neospora released Thundercloud, a prog-inspired song with a long intro, some odd time signatures and lots of vocal harmonies (over 20 vocal tracks where recorded for the chorus).

2021

Imagery, the first instrumental of Neospora, was released on the 5th of March 2021.
