In 2004, Nick began making loud noises and upsetting the local children with his pop-punk band Dfrost, bagging multiple South African Battle of the Bands wins, including first place in the Blastbeat Battle of the Bands—twice. The early 2000s were a golden era for pop-punk, and Dfrost rode that wave like they were born to do it.
In 2007, Nick joined his second band, an alternative rock outfit called Change of View, where he found himself on some of South Africa’s biggest festival stages, from Woodstock to Knysna Oysterfest.
By 2011, Nick had formed a brand new “supergroup,” Mister & Misread, a genre-bending dark-pop project with longtime friend, Kristyn Taylor, and members of booming local group, Heldervue, landing a record deal with Sovereign Entertainment and taking on popular venues and huge festivals like Synergy and Bright Street Summer Carnival.
A natural collaborator, Nick spent the next few years sessioning for just about everyone in the Cape Town music scene—LAVI, Julian Bach, Heather Waters, Heldervue, The Akelian Circus, Between Us, Little Black Box, The Little Bangs—the list goes on.
In 2016, Nick joined The Renegades, fronted by SA Idols finalist Ruan Grobelaar, playing everywhere from national TV spots like The Espresso Morning Show to Robertson Wine Festival, and even locking down a yearly residency in Ponto do Ouro, Mozambique.
In 2019, Nick relocated from Cape Town to Dubai. New city, new scene, new solo project: nfm.
