The Argentine musician Nicolás Melmann has been developing an audiovisual project that merges sound art and electroacoustic music, using sound as the raw material for his compositions.
A multi-instrumentalist, Melmann becomes a one-man band in his live performances, crafting a sonic collage through diverse sources: electronics, unconventional acoustic instruments (Koto, lyre, glass lyre, harp, ukulele, percussion, hang drum, flute, and more), field recordings, and spoken word. His music is an introspective and nocturnal journey where melody and experimentation intertwine.
Melmann was a participant in the Red Bull Music Academy (New York), where he performed at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, opening for Alva Noto & Ryuichi Sakamoto. His music has taken him around the world to renowned venues and festivals, including the Victoria and Albert Museum (London), Museum of Contemporary Art (Denver), Festival Mutek (Buenos Aires), Sónar Festival (Buenos Aires), Polytech Museum (Moscow), Seoul Museum of Art (South Korea), EXPO MILANO (Italy), C/O POP Festival (Cologne), and the New Media Art & Sound Summit (Austin), among others. He has also toured extensively across Asia, Europe, North, and Latin America.
A graduate in electroacoustic composition, participated in artist residencies at MACBA (Buenos Aires) and Asylum Arts (Mexico), among others. His work extends to composing for film, television, theater, dance, and video games.
