Phoenix “Nixxie” Melnick is a singer, songwriter, rapper & aspiring director who was born in Montreal [April 13th 1994].
Nixxie was eight years old in the middle of Montreal’s burgeoning underground hip hop scene, often battling b-boys & b-girls 3 times her age. She practiced for hours a day, watched Beat Street on repeat & shared a stage with some of the most talented performers in the city. Her older sister would bring home classic hip hop albums (ready to die, the blueprint, illmatic) to memorize the lyrics while putting on concerts in their bedroom.
It was in High school where Nixxie developed the skill of writing poems & lyrics. Her close friend Marley would stay after school with her studying the flows and lyrics of their favourite artists.
Nixxie’s parents are also a major influence. Her mother is a dancer & visionary artist and her father is a long-time radio personality. They played all kinds of music at home. Bob Dylan, Ray Charles & James Brown were in heavy rotation alongside a vast array of other genres including soul, jazz, classical and opera. The constant exposure to these diverse sounds, along with a vivid imagination and youthful energy provided Nixxie with the proper edge and ambition she needed to evolve into the Honest and Rebellious artist she is today.
