Melbourne "heat beat" collective NO ZU have existed in various forms since 2007. Across two albums (Life in 2012, Afterlife in 2016) and a swathe of 12"s and cassettes, NO ZU explore themes of human beauty, body movement, BDSM, belief systems, mortality, immortality, the fetishisation of Australian colonial invasion and destruction of land/cultures - all sung in dynamic dancefloor metaphors.
Their lineup swells from a modest 8 members to up to 15 or more, but Nicolaas Oogjes (who puts the NO in NO ZU) is the band's founder and spiritual leader.
NO ZU have toured the US, UK and Europe, collaborated with members of Liquid Liquid, been remixed by A Certain Ratio and Jonny Sender of Konk, and toured Australia with ESG and James Chance.
